At Home With
Yasmine Ganley

Words: Yasmine Ganley

Yasmine Ganley is a French–Kiwi creative based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. Her work spans creative direction, brand consultancy, storytelling, and photography, each developed in close collaboration with independent artists, makers, and brands.

We take a peek into Yasmine's home in Titirangi, an airy, soulful space nestled among the trees on Auckland’s west coast, to discover how she weaves scent and fragrance into her daily rhythms.

Trained in contemporary dance, Yasmine seamlessly integrates disciplines, exploring how movement, memory, and emotion shape visual expression. Through her long-standing platform, Anyonegirl, Yasmine has published a series of art books and magazines through Anyonebooks that celebrate process, intuition, and generational stories.

Beyond her practice, she’s a mother to two children: a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son, who bring warmth and a sense of play to the home she has nurtured with her partner for the past eleven years.

BEDROOM

Over time, I have realised that this room is far more restful with less visual clutter. We feel good in a room with a soft colour palette, layered with natural textiles and paintings from friends, a glow-y lamp, and candid photographs of our family.

Our bedroom window overlooks our garden, and I try not to let anything compete with that view. Leaving the blinds up, always, and the windows open for bird song.

We have a small rock collection on our windowsill that grows and changes with each adventure.

LAUNDRY

The laundry is somewhere I do not want to spend my time! I like the process to be swift and easy. I love sun-dried whites, and laying our woollies on our deck.

Rituals change and evolve with each season. At the moment, we're trying our best to work as a team, have everyone involved even if progress is slower.

I love seeing the simple, undone moments of daily life as small building blocks for a whole life. Undone is a great word for this time, and trying to remember that not all plates can spin at once, and having a few pieces scattered at times makes you look at them differently.

KITCHEN

I'm usually in the kitchen with the front door open, herb garden within reach, kids on their bikes on the street, cat in the sun, coffee brewing. Nothing really happening, but everything is important.

My partner Matthew ripped out our old 60s kitchen a few years ago and refreshed it for us with built in cabinetry and extra shelving. We understand our home is tiny, and making small and slow changes every now and then assists us in each phase of our life together. We value anything done by hand, and appreciate the process of finding a solution for our specific needs.

We like filling the bench space with fresh produce, garden flowers, and making everything from scratch.

Quick Fire Q's

Name a scent that invokes a special memory for you?

The smell of freshly mown grass reminds me of my childhood, and summer holidays spent in the garden.

A daily ritual you can’t live without?

As the light leaves a little earlier these days, I'm enjoying freshly showered kids piling onto the couch to read books by the lamp.

Favourite dish and where would you like to eat it?

Last weekend we made Spaghetti alle Vongole which is fast becoming our family favourite - a treat for the weekend.

Book, podcast or song that you’re loving at the moment?

We went to see Jessica Pratt play live at the Bruce Mason which was glorious! Her album, Here In The Pitch is really beautiful for a slow start to the weekend. I devoured The Silver Book by Olivia Laing at the start of the year, it is about the costume designer for Fellini's films, it is lush and descriptive and I highly recommend.

Your most-loved Ashley & Co scent?

Lotus Leaf & Lustre: anything green and fresh with citrus notes!
